The foundation

The first commits: a pnpm monorepo, typed contracts, realm-server on SQLite and WebSockets with node-pty terminals, and an Electron shell with a split-tree pane host.

Realm starts as four pieces that have not changed shape since.

  • contracts: ids, entity schemas, layout-tree operations and an RPC envelope with method and event registries. Everything else is typed against this.
  • realm-server: a node:sqlite database with append-only migrations, stores for profiles, spaces, projects and items, a WebSocket RPC server with broadcast, and a node-pty terminal manager.
  • desktop: an Electron shell that spawns the server, a typed WebSocket client, a split-tree pane host, and terminal panes on xterm.
  • ui: the icon wrapper and the palette-from-colour theme engine.

Layouts persist and terminals respawn on boot, which is the property everything since has had to preserve: what you leave open is what you come back to.
